The Benefits Of Keeping Office Plants

There are many benefits to keeping office plants in your work space. Many studies have been made in recent years as to how they can improve the health of people and the buildings that they occupy. This in turn can help to increase productivity in your business, therefore making you more money.

In one of these recent studies a simulated office was tested with and without plants. It was noted that having the plants in an office reduced stress and increased productivity by twelve percent. The quality of work produced from staff who are happy and enjoy their work and working environment will be much better. They are also more likely to be generally healthy, taking fewer sick days than those in a plant free environment.

When bringing potential clients or employees into your office the introduction of plants could improve their impression of the business. They will see that you are a caring employer who wants to create a nice working environment for their staff and they will be more likely to want to work with you. A good business impression can help attract the best staff and customers, which again should improve your business.

As more new buildings have been built in recent years, there has been an increase in a problem called Sick Building Syndrome. Sick Building Syndrome occurs in buildings that do not have enough ventilation. This quite often occurs where there are central heating systems or air conditioning. The lack of ventilation can lead to a toxic mold developing in the building. Over time this can damage buildings costing you money in repairs. It could also lead to respiratory problems for the people at work, which could mean lost man hours and in turn lost money.

Keeping some plants in your office could help to regenerate the air. The toxins in the air are drawn in by the plant. The plant then takes these toxins to its roots where it turns it into its food. They also release oxygen into the atmosphere. In doing this, the old air is taken by the plant and fresh clean air is released helping to keep the exchange of air moving in the building.

Keeping a plant or two around your own specific area at work could help you become less distracted by other goings on around the room. They act like soundproofing, soaking up some of the noise in the immediate area. Studies have shown that the noise can be reduced by five decibels in this way. Increased concentration among staff will mean increased productivity, therefore making more money.

The advantages of keeping office plants far outweigh the negatives. You may have to spend a bit of time watering them but in return you could get a healthier building and a healthier and more productive workforce.
